We're all doing our part to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The CDC has recommended that all of us practice social distancing and avoid gathering in large groups for the time being. Fear of the unknown and uncertainty about what the future holds can elevate stress levels and anxiety. Many of us have been asked to homeschool our children through virtual instruction. Our everyday lives have been completely changed, virtually overnight. As the country and state of North Carolina take steps to "re-open," we'd like to invite you to escape to the Blue Ridge Mountains and find peace and social distance here.

Additional Cleaning and Disinfection

 

We have always used a professional cleaning service to maintain our properties to the highest standards. As a result of the current climate surrounding COVID-19, and in an attempt to slow its spread, we are taking additional steps for disinfection. We have included the use of bleach and water solution, Lysol wipes, and a variety of other disinfectant cleaners to thoroughly sanitize and disinfect the properties after each group checks out. This includes, but is not limited to the following: wiping down all hard surfaces and countertops, door knobs, cabinet hardware, light switches, remote controls, faucets, toilets, and other commonly touched surfaces. The technique we use is referred to as "follow the walls". The housekeeping staff has been instructed and trained to literally follow each wall and clean all the aforementioned items along the path as to not miss anything. All linens will continue to be laundered in-house using hot water, detergent, and bleach when appropriate.

Enhancements to Our Cancellation Policy

 

In an effort to help you book your mountain getaway with confidence, we have made some changes to our standard cancellation policy. Because the federal, state, and local rules and regulations around travel are constantly evolving, we are transitioning to our "Enhanced Cancellation Policy" and extending our full-refund period. Should you need to cancel your reservation DUE TO A GOVERNMENT MANDATED TRAVEL RESTRICTION*, you will receive a full refund up to 14 days prior to your arrival date. In addition, should you become unable to travel inside of the 14-day period prior to your scheduled arrival date due to sickness or government-issued travel restriction, we will offer "store credit" to be used within one year.* Our hope is that you will continue to live your life to the fullest and plan your vacation knowing that we have added some flexibility to protect your investment.

 

* Enhanced Cancellation Policy applies to reservations made on or after March 15, 2020 directly through www.TheMountainCottage.com. Full refund up to 14 days prior to arrival date only applicable if a current or future federal, state, or local travel moratorium legally prohibits you from traveling at the commencement of your reservation. Fear, uncertainty, and doubt do not apply. Should you, or someone in your registered group, test positive for COVID-19, or if you must cancel because of a government-issued travel restriction within 14 days of your scheduled arrival date, a "store credit" for the full amount of your booking will be issued to be used within one year of the original arrival date.
